Reading Order

Series

Chronicles of Meklir

All the books currently listed on this site are part of the (wider) Chronicles of Meklir. This guide is being compiled to help you work out the best times to read each. I hope to update it as more books come out.

The Potentate of Azardika can be read at any time. It is a Talgar of Sen story, but the sequence of events does not impact on events in any of the other books.

A Legionnaire in Prel can be read at any time. It is a Talgar of Sen story, whose events are only remotely related to events in other books.

The Theurgic Centrum is a Tale of Malivene Grode. It operates as a stand-alone novel. Other Tales of Malivene Grode are planned, but it would be possible to read them in out of sequence.

The main series is called Spell Books of Meklir. Although each book completes its own self-contained arc, it is more satisfying to read them in order. If you wanted to read The Bridge Over Magad's Gorge, the best timing for that is either between volumes 1 and 2 of this series or else at the end.

1. The Red Book of Errabrec

(1.5 The Bridge Over Magad's Gorge)

2. The Blue Book of Sevadon

3. The White Book of Taelonia

The second main series is called The Sceptre of Kehaldar. It is still in early drafting stages. The events and characters are drawn primarily from the Spell Books of Meklir series, but it is a new story and could be read without having read the first trilogy. At the time of writing this guide, the sequence is:

1. The Selkie's Revenge

2. Untitled Volume

The last book currently being drafted is The Wizard's Misdeed, which is a stand-alone story that could also serve as a prequel to the Spell Books of Meklir. I've given two 'suggested reading orders' below. Clearly, the second of the two is the only practical one at this point, as it prioritises the books by availability: some books (such as the White Book and the Centrum) should be coming out within the next few months. Others, specifically Legionnaire, are already drafted and just need to be edited before they can be published.

Suggested reading orders:

1. The Wizard's Misdeed (when available)

2. The Red Book of Errabrec

3. The Bridge Over Magad's Gorge

4. The Blue Book of Sevadon

5. The White Book of Taelonia (when available)

6. The Potentate of Azardika

7. The Theurgic Centrum (when available)

8. The Selkie's Revenge (when available)

9. A Legionnaire in Prel (when available)

Or:

1. The Potentate of Azardika

2. The Red Book of Errabrec

3. The Bridge Over Magad's Gorge

4. The Blue Book of Sevadon

5. A Legionnaire in Prel (when available)

6. The White Book of Taelonia (when available)

7. The Theurgic Centrum (when available)

8. The Selkie's Revenge (when available)

9. The Wizard's Misdeed (when available)

Spell Books of Meklir

The wizard Draemon and his three apprentices investigate the surprising theft of an obscure spell book. For the apprentices, their quest will take them into dangers they could never have foreseen and will reveal many of the wonders of the magical world of Meklir. But soon they will learn that the stolen book is only the opening move in a much bigger plot. How will the apprentices deal with the demons they must face - both internal and external - and can they learn to put aside their prejudices and work together?
